A Padma Bhushan awardee, MT etched himself into history as a novelist, short story writer, screenplay writer, filmographer and literary editor during his seven-decade-long literary career. He has been chosen for almost all major literary awards including the Jnanpith, Kendra Sahitya Akademi award, Kerala Sahitya Academy award, Ezhuthachan award and JC Daniel honour.

MT was admitted to the hospital after he experienced respiratory issues 11 days ago and he suffered a cardiac arrest on December 20.
