'Back to medieval times': Rahul on bill to remove CM, PM
The New Indian Express Villupuram
|August 21, 2025
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday tore into three new bills that allow the Prime Minister and chief ministers of states and union territories to be removed if they have been jailed on 'serious criminal charges' for 30 consecutive days.
Coming down heavily on the new Bills, Gandhi said the bills are taking the country back to medieval times and there is a lot of noise on BJP's new move. "We are going back to medieval times when the king could just remove anybody at his will... If the BJP government didn't like someone's face, it could ask the ED to get them arrested, and a democratically elected person can be thrown out within 30 days," he said.
