No recognition for Sharia court under Indian law: SC

THE Supreme Court has held that Islamic courts, such as the 'Qazi court', 'Kajiyat court (Darul Kaja)', and 'Sharia court', have no legal recognition and lack the authority to enforce maintenance claims filed by Muslim women.
A two-judge bench comprising Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Ahsanuddin Amanullah stated that no decision made by these courts is binding or enforceable through coercive measures.
