3 Greyhounds commandos die in blast

THREE commandos of the Greyhounds unit were killed and an officer injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast allegedly triggered by Maoists in the Nuguru forest area near Peddagutta under Wazeedu police station in Mulugu district.
The deceased commandos were identified as Vadla Sridhar, N Pavan Kalyan and T Sandeep. The injured officer, AAC Ch Ranadheer (RSI) of Greyhounds, also sustained firearm injuries in indiscriminate firing by CPI (Maoist) cadres. He was shifted to Hyderabad for further treatment.
According to an official release from the Director General of Police (DGP), Dr Jitender, at around 6 am on Thursday, a patrol team was conducting a search in the forest area approximately 4 km north-east of Penugolu village. A group of 35-40 armed extremists, including women, affiliated with the banned CPI (Maoist), had reportedly laid an ambush. They detonated landmines from a distance, followed by heavy gunfire targeting the search and patrol party.
