AMONG the 22.05 lakh candidates who agonised over the cancellation of the May NEET-UG 2026 exam is septuagenarian Ashok Bahar.

It was his third attempt at cracking the highly competitive medical entrance exam to fulfil the last wish of his mother. The Lucknow-based aspirant will undertake his fourth attempt next month in his relentless pursuit of an MBBS degree.
There are 20 doctors within his family and extended family. Bahar’s wife is a gynaecologist, while two of his sisters and brothers-in-law too are doctors. His late father was a doctor, while his only daughter is an IT professional in the US.
