DISMISSING a petition filed by a person seeking compensation for his 18-year-old son who drowned to death in a village pond in Pudukkottai district, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court recently said the parent is duty bound to ensure their child takes safety measures while bathing a well or pond.
The petitioner, P Arunachalam, just escaped from the registration of the offence for his negligence by allowing the teen Dhamodharan, who does not know swimming, to enter the pond, the court observed.
