COMING clear on its decision on merger of government primary schools, the Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday announced that the schools with 50 students or more would not be merged.

- NAMITA BAJPAI @ Lucknow

The state government said a school more than a kilometre away from the next school would not be paired and also ruled out any cut in the number of teachers' posts.

The state government's clarification came following reports that some schools with 55 or 60 students were also being merged. The government had decided to merge (pair) close to 10,000 primary, upper primary schools this month despite protests.
