Mamata fumes as EC revises electoral rolls in Bihar polls

WEST Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday hit out at the Election Commission (EC) for seeking documentary evidence of citizenship from people born between July 1987 and December 2004 for inclusion of their names in the voters' list.
"I have received two letters from the EC. The Commission is now seeking a declaration form from voters born between July 1, 1987 and December 2, 2004, where they will have to submit birth certificates of both parents as proof of citizenship," Banerjee told reporters in Digha, where she is currently stationed for Friday's Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in the newly inaugurated temple. "I don't understand the reason behind the EC move or the rationale behind selecting these dates. This is nothing short of a scam.
