AGRICULTURE Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy announced on Wednesday that the state government has set a target to establish 5,000 new mini food processing enterprise units this year. Inaugurating an awareness programme organised by the Central Food Processing Ministry, the State Agriculture Products Processing and Export Corporation (SAPPEC), and the district administration at the Zilla Panchayat auditorium, the minister revealed that 6,000 such units are already operational across Karnataka.
"Ours is a predominantly agricultural nation, with 60 to 70 per cent of the population dependent on the sector. This is why the government is emphasising the establishment of these units," he stated.
