Heavy rains help farmers take up onion cultivation

GOOD pre-monsoon showers have helped farmers take up sowing of onion seeds across Chitradurga district, which is one of the largest producers of red onions.

In irrigated areas, farmers have completed sowing of onion seeds on 3,000 hectares of land. Those in rainfed areas of the district have started sowing operations now.

Red onions grown in the district are exported to Bangladesh and other countries.
