Villagers seek reduction in night traffic ban hours

Insists on curbs between 9 pm and 6 am, instead of 6 pm and 6 am

SHARATH Ali, who works in the Gulf, recently landed at Calicut Airport to visit his family in his native village DB Kuppe. Despite the fact that his village was just 3 km away, he was forced to spend the night at the Bavali check post due to the 6pm-6am ban on vehicular traffic along the forest fringe villages on the Karnataka-Kerala border. "I requested the staff to let me pass, but they didn't allow me. I had to spend the entire night in my car," Sharath said.

Another resident, Raju, expressed frustration over the impact of night traffic ban on his children's education. His children, who once attended evening tuition classes in the neighbouring town, have been unable to continue due to the travel restrictions. "We had to move to a rented house in Katikullam as the ban affected their education. We couldn't convince the staff at the check post to allow them to attend their classes," Raju recalled.
