Suttur Mutt Seer Urges Restraint Over Controversies at Dharmasthala

SUTTUR Mutt seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamiji on Friday expressed regret that attempts are being made to turn Dharmasthala, one of the country's most revered centers of devotion, into a subject of controversy.

In a press statement, the seer said faith is extremely sensitive and should not be tampered with. "Faith is like a mirror, once broken, it cannot be restored. Each shard reflects a different image, but it is not right to believe or interpret all of them differently. Constantly creating controversies around a holy place is inappropriate," he said.

Highlighting the unique heritage of Dharmasthala, the seer said the shrine represents the coexistence of diverse traditions.

"The priests who worship at the Shiva temple belong to the Madhva tradition, which upholds Vishnu as the supreme deity, while the administration is run by the Jain Heggade family. It is a matter of pride that the Heggade family continues to preserve devotion to the presiding deity of Sri Kshetra, upholding unity among these distinct beliefs," he said.
