Protest against damage to roots of a century-old tree

ENVIRONMENTALISTS and members of the Karnataka Hitarakshana Vedike staged a protest against Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) officials for allegedly attempting to cut down branches and damaging a 100-year-old tree located within the premises of the historic Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry, under the pretext of repairing the surrounding fencing.
The agitators carried the uprooted roots of the tree as a symbol of the destruction and expressed their strong opposition to the move. Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka Hitarakshana Vedike president Vinay Kumar expressed deep anguish over the act, and said, "It is disheartening to see that in the name of development, officials have struck a
