HCM directs officials to prioritise housing for shelterless families
DISTRICT Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa has directed officials to compile a list of shelterless families and give them priority in the allotment of sites and housing.
Presiding over the Janata Darshan programme at the Zilla Panchayat office here on Friday, Mahadevappa emphasised the urgency of the matter. Given the scarcity of sites in Mysuru city, he proposed the construction of high-rise residential buildings to accommodate more applicants and instructed the tahsildar and taluk panchayat executive officer to include shelterless families in the priority list.
In the marathon meeting, Dowreswamy of HD Kote raised concerns about an illegal resort being developed in the Kabini backwaters. He urged the minister to order its closure, stating that wine shops and other establishments are being constructed by encroaching on the tank bed. Despite public complaints, the local tahsildar and other authorities have reportedly failed to act.
Dowreswamy alleged collusion between officials and the encroachers. In response, Mahadevappa instructed the tahsildar and assistant director of land records (ADLR) to conduct a joint survey and take immediate action against those responsible. He also assured that a formal inquiry would be initiated, and action would be taken based on the findings.
