Don't hold public to ransom, HC warns JAC, extends stay on strike

EXTENDING the interim order of staying the indefinite strike by the trade unions of the state-run transport corporations across the state, the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday warned them of initiating contempt proceedings if they continued the strike, violating the court's order.

A division bench of Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice CM Joshi said: "Has the strike been suspended? Police have already arrested anybody who is supporting the strike? Whatever you (trade unions) do, do in accordance with the law. As of now, the strike is illegal. If you have issues, you can negotiate with the government. You can't hold the public to ransom, but that is exactly what the unions are doing. The public can't be inconvenienced in this manner."
