CIIL Launches Initiative to Promote Endangered Toda Language of Tribals

In an ambitious endeavor to promote the rich linguistic heritage of India, the Scheme for the Protection and Preservation of Endangered Languages (SPPEL) under the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru, has launched a significant initiative aimed at revitalizing the Toda language.
Toda is an endangered tribal language, spoken by the Toda community in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu.
CIIL has embarked on the development of a language primer for the Toda language. This primer is designed not merely as a preservation effort but as a dynamic tool to reinvigorate the Toda language and integrate it into the early childhood education of the Toda community.
