MLC suggests Santhuru village between M'luru and Udupi as suitable site
GROWING safety concerns and the lack of scope for runway expansion at the table-top Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) have reignited the demand for a new airport in the region.
MLC Ivan D'Souza has proposed Santhuru village, strategically located between Mangaluru and Udupi as a suitable site for the new airport. He plans to raise the issue during the upcoming legislative session and urge the state government to explore the proposal seriously.
D'Souza pointed out that land acquisition for the shelved second phase of the Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) project in Santhuru is still underway. "More than 800 acres originally earmarked for the project could now be repurposed for constructing a new airport," he said.
