Farmers participating in the monthly grievance redressal meeting held at the district collectorate on Friday staged a walkout demanding that the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) draft guidelines on lending against gold collateral be withdrawn completely as they said it would adversely affect those primarily dependent on gold loans for undertaking cultivation.

Soon after the meeting chaired by Collector B Priyanka Pankajam commenced, the farmers took to their feet and raised slogans against the RBI's draft guidelines. They also raised slogans against the Union government over it. The farmers who walked out of the meeting hall also staged a demonstration in front of the collectorate building. Later they returned to the meeting hall and participated in the proceedings.
