OBSERVING that women facing domestic issues should be strong and look for alternative ways to solve their problem instead of choosing to end their lives, the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court recently acquitted a mother-daughter duo who was convicted for abetting the suicide of a woman in Thanjavur in 2015.
The deceased's husband was working abroad and she was living with her mother-in-law along with her minor son. It was alleged the deceased frequently faced physical and mental torture at the hands of the mother-daughter duo. Her mother-in-law had also allegedly objected to the deceased's decision to work as a school teacher. Though the deceased's mother had assured her on January 5, 2015, that she would speak to her mother-in-law and address the issue, she killed herself the next day. Based on a complaint lodged by th
