Workers Continue Stir, Township Work to Go On

Following demands from workers, the district administration has scheduled a follow-up meeting on April 19

The Assistant Labour Commissioner held a meeting with Elstone Estate workers in Kalpetta on Tuesday to address ongoing labour disputes. The issues are linked to labour issues in the estate, including the 64 hectares of land acquired by the state government for the proposed Wayanad Township project, intended to rehabilitate victims of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide disaster.

Following demands from workers, the district administration has scheduled a follow-up meeting on April 19, to be chaired by the district collector. Meanwhile, estate workers have decided to continue their strike until that date but have agreed not to obstruct the construction work, which commenced on Tuesday.

"Tuesday's meeting with the Labour Department officials gives us a positive signal. They have been suggesting steps aligning with the needs of the estate workers.
