Dist secy P Mohanan says Sunni leader takes strong stance against extremists elements

- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE @Kozhikode

HINTING that the CPM was not for a confrontation with Sunni leader Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musaliyar over the issue of male-female segregation in public, the party's Kozhikode district secretary P Mohanan said religious scholars can have their opinions on religious issues.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mohanan said such divergent views existed in the past too. "Kanthapuram is a revered religious scholar who takes strong stance against extremists elements like Jama'at e Islami and SDPI," he said.

It may be recalled that Kanthapuram had reacted strongly to CPM state secretary M V Govindan's criticism of his stand on women.
