Recurring Cases Raise Questions on Efficacy of Anti-Ragging Committees

Strong demand to strengthen anti-ragging committees in schools in view of rising cases

SHIYAS P, 16, a Plus I student of Kaniyambetta Government Higher Secondary School, Wayanad, was brutally beaten up by some senior students during ragging on Wednesday. Just a week ago, Muhammed Ameen, another Plus I student, of the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Atholi in Kozhikode was beaten up by his seniors for disobeying their orders and resulted in the suspension of five Plus II students.

While strengthening the anti-ragging committees in schools is a part of the preparations for the new academic year, the recent cases of ragging involving higher secondary school students question the efficacy of these committees.
