PROTESTS are intensifying against the encroachment on the Kottooli wetlands in Kozhikode, as activists and residents voice their concerns about the potential destruction of this ecologically significant area. Representatives from various political parties have joined the demonstrations, signalling widespread discontent over the issue.

UDF convener M M Hassan has called for stringent action against the rampant encroachment of wetlands, emphasising the grave environmental threat posed by such activities. Speaking after visiting the illegally filled wetland area in Sarovaram, Hassan underscored the urgency of preserving mangroves and wetlands, which are critical to the ecological balance.
