Drug-fuelled attack: Man stabs mother at Puthuppady

Woman suffers injuries on her hand; accused Ramees is a habitual drug user and had previously undergone treatment at a de-addiction centre

IN yet another incident pointing to the growing drug abuse among youngsters, a 21-year-old man allegedly stabbed his mother while under the influence of narcotics in Puthuppady, Kozhikode. The victim, Safiya, a resident of Manalvayal, sustained injuries to her hand and has been admitted to a local hospital. Her son, Ramees, was immediately taken into police custody following the assault.

Police officials confirmed that Ramees is a known habitual drug user and had previously undergone treatment at a de-addiction centre, indicating a long-standing struggle with substance abuse. "Such incidents are a tragic consequence of unchecked drug abuse, and we are seeing a worrying trend of violence within families," stated a senior police officer from the Puthuppady station, who wished to remain unnamed.
