Chokramudi people's struggle to protect peak now a book

Book's first copy presented to tribal chief of Chokramudi Muthuvan settlement

FOR months now, a village community in Idukki's Bisonvalley has been fighting tooth and nail against the land mafia to protect the 7,200-ft high Chokramudi hills, a biodiversity hotspot in their panchayat.

The story of their protest has now been turned into a book by Subhash Chandran K P, a writer, social activist and retired irrigation department official settled in Adimali.

In Chokramudi, Subhash describes the history of the place, the tribal people settled there, its biodiversity, climate, as well as encroachment and degradation of the hill by land mafia, and efforts put in by the local people, including Muthuvan tribe, to protect the hills from environmental degradation.

Published by Konattu Publications in Adimali, the book was released by handing over a copy to K R Kumaraswamy, the tribal chief of Chokramudi Muthuvan settlement, Subhash said.
