72,005 in the fray for local body elections

A TOTAL of 72,005 candidates are officially in the fray across the state for the upcoming local body election, as per provisional data released by the State Election Commission late on Monday.
The final picture of the candidates became clear after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended on Monday. The list of candidates includes 37,786 women, 34,218 men and one transgender person.
