DAYS after the family of Manish Nishad (28)—a Christian convert from Kanker’s Kodekurse village who died on November 5—struggled to perform his last rites amid opposition from other locals, a similar situation played out on Saturday in Balod’s Jewartala.
After Raman Sahu (50), a local who had converted to Christianity a few years ago, succumbed to an illness at a private hospital in Raipur on Saturday, his body was brought back to Jewartala, distant about 90 km from the state capital. However, the locals denied him a burial at his native village.
