VEHICLES speed past the spot where six lives, including that of a 10-year-old, were lost after a speeding Karnataka SRTC bus rammed two autorickshaws, killing all six passengers inside and injuring three bystanders last Thursday.
The 100-metre long stretch where the six-way lane from the Kerala side shrinks to a four-way lane before heading to the toll-gate in Karnataka is a death trap that could claim many more lives if not fixed, say the local residents and road users.
The six-way lane ends at the upper gradient, sloping into a lower gradient, and vehicles coming from Kerala head down at this downgrade at full throttle towards Karnataka.
On the other end, the vehicles coming from Karnataka climb up from the lower gradient to the upper gradient towards Kerala.
