Party's 24th national meet kicks off in Tamil Nadu's Madurai; contrary to previous editions, inaugural address did not have any mention about the Congress party
IN A marked difference from previous editions where the political discussions primarily centred around its approach towards the Congress, the CPM began its national conference in Madurai with no open mention about the grand old party. However, during closed-door discussions, politburo coordinator Prakash Karat is learnt to have mentioned the role the AICC should play in the fight against Sangh Parivar-led Hindutva agenda.
The CPM's 24th Party Congress began in the Tamil Nadu city on Wednesday with a call for a united, multi-faceted fight against the Narendra Modi government for its neo-fascist characteristics.
Noticeably, one of the key contentions in previous editions of the party Congress didn't find even a mention in the inaugural address: the Left's approach towards the Congress party. While previous meetings witnessed major debates, discussions and even differences over the approach towards Congress, this time around, the issue was not even a major point of discussion. The Congress didn't find a mention in Karat's inaugural address as the entire focus has been turned towards fighting the BJP.
In an apparent call to emulate the 'Kerala model' and to defend the state in its fight against the BJP government at the Centre, Karat said only the Left can consistently fight Hindutva's neo-fascism and neo-liberal capitalism. He called for waging a multi-faceted struggle against both the BJP-RSS and the Hindutva forces.
