Conservation Measures to Tackle Groundwater Exhaustion in Dist

In response to report highlighting rising groundwater exploitation in many areas in Kannur

In light of the increasing groundwater exploitation across several parts of the district, extensive water conservation initiatives will be implemented to prevent a drastic decline in groundwater levels. The decision was made during the Navakeralam Karma Padhathi meeting held on July 16. The decision comes in response to a report by the National Compilation on Dynamic Groundwater Resources of India, which highlighted a rising trend in groundwater exploitation in Panoor, Thalassery, Kannur, and Mattanur block panchayat areas, as well as in many municipalities across the district. It also warned that the Central government may soon categorize these regions as critical zones due to the alarming rate of water extraction.
