- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE @Belagavi

INDIA declared itself as a republic on January 26, 1950. This is the day when the responsibility of the nation was given to the citizens of the country. This is the day when our Constitution was accepted. The republican system gave sovereignty to Indians, said Public Works Department (PWD) and District In-charge Minister Satish Jarkiholi.

The minister hoisted the national flag at the city's district stadium on Sunday as part of the Republic Day celebrations. "This land of Belagavi is the land where great people like the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and the architect of the Indian Constitution Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar walked. As a result of Dr. Ambedkar's vision and thinking, we are the heirs to a Constitution that is a model for the world today. This Constitution is the foundation for India to emerge as the strongest democratic country in the world in just 76 years after getting freedom from the British rule. Social justice, equality for all, individuality and freedom of expression are the greatest contributions that our Constitution has given us," he said.
