In a remarkable blend of policing and passion for literature, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Basavaraj Yeligar has translated some 959 Vachanas of 12th-century social reformer Basaveshwara into English, aiming to bring the spiritual and philosophical richness of Kannada globally.
Yeligar's translated collection, 'My Me Is Thee', will be officially released on May 17 at the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. The 808-page volume, published by Amma Publications, Vijayapura, is priced at Rs1,000 and seeks to make the vachanas accessible to non-Kannada readers worldwide.
