₹8 Crore Worth Hydroponic Weed Seized at BPIA, One Held

FOUR days after the seizure of 50 kg hydroponic weed from three persons by Customs department at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Saturday recovered around 8 kg of the contraband, having a market value of over ₹8 crore, from another passenger at the airport.
Acting on a tip-off, DRI officers intercepted a person who arrived at the airport from Bangkok at about 5 am. During the scanning of his luggage, they recovered 8 kg hydroponic weed concealed in food packets. The passenger, a native of Gujarat, has been arrested.
Sources said the contraband was likely to be delivered to the drug dealers operating in the southern states. The delivery of some quantity of the seized weed in Odisha cannot also be ruled out, they added.
