Farmers raising oil palm crop are entitled to ₹62,000 subsidy over four years for indigenous varieties, and ₹71,000 for imported ones

- D Surendra Kumar @Nellore

In a bid to promote sustainable agriculture and enhance farmer incomes, the state government has rolled out a comprehensive incentive package for oil palm cultivation in the district.

The initiative, led by the department of Horticulture, includes 100% subsidy on saplings, support for fertilizers, intercropping guidance, and guaranteed market access—transforming oil palm into one of the most profitable agricultural options for farmers with irrigation facilities.

Oil palm is currently cultivated across approximately 1,000 hectares in the mandals of Vinjamur, Duttalur, Atmakur, Sangam, Kavali, and Jaladanki. The horticulture department aims to extend this to an additional 1,400 hectares during the current financial year. Applications are already being accepted through the Farmer Service centres.
