2.5 lakh farmers are enrolled under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in flood-hit Chennai

UNION Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday instructed insurance companies and district administration to settle the damage claims of 2.5 lakh farmers covered under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in Thoothukudi. The total area covered in the district is 1.38 lakh hectares.
She visited Thoothukudi on Tuesday to assess the impact of flood across the district. She received a 72-page memorandum from the Tamil Nadu government. Accompanied by Union Minister of State for Fisheries L Murugan and state Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, Sitharaman also chaired a meeting on the flood situation and reviewed the steps taken by various agencies.
