Rahul calls EVM 'black box' after Musk stirs fresh row

CONGRESS leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) in India are a "black box" that nobody is allowed to scrutinise. He also asserted that "serious concerns" are being raised about transparency in the country's electoral process.

The remarks came in the wake of a statement by X and Tesla Inc CEO Elon Musk over the security of the EVMs. Tagging a post by Musk in which he talked about eliminating the EVMs, Gandhi posted, "Democracy ends up becoming a sham and prone to fraud when institutions lack accountability".

He also tagged a media report that claimed that a relative of Shiv Sena's candidate, who won the Lok Sabha polls from Mumbai's North West seat by 48 votes, had a phone that unlocks an EVM.
