PM-led panel picks up two retired IAS officers as ECs

RETIRED IAS officers Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu were on Thursday appointed election commissioners. Their names were cleared by a selection panel headed by PM Narendra Modi earlier in the day.
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who was a member of the selection committee, told reporters that six short-listed names came up and a majority of members picked Sandhu and Kumar. He, however, said that he gave a dissent note.
