JAYA, a 19-year-old girl who resides in Sita Ram Bazar in Chandni Chowk and comes from a marginalized community, has six members in her family and her parents are physically challenged.
Thus, there was a huge responsibility on her shoulders to support her family.
After recommendations from her friend, Jaya joined the Lighthouse Skill Centre located at Turkman Gate area of Matia Mahal in Delhi. She got enrolled in an executive skill course imparted at the centre, worked on her skills and now she is working as a sales executive at Zudio. Her monthly remuneration is about Rs 21,000 which is good enough to support her family.
Jaya is not the only one who benefited from the Lighthouse Skill Center. There are many others like her.
A few days back, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the Lighthouse Skill Centre in Matia Mahal area, in the presence of Delhi deputy mayor Aaley Mohammad Iqbal. According to education minister Atishi Singh, this project in Matia Mahal area is the dream project of the deputy mayor.
Lighthouse Skill Centre is a sustainable livelihood program for urban disadvantaged youth (19 20 voore) and youth (18-30 years) and it provides a platform and supports the individual in discovering their path and taking the next step towards fulfilling their potential. The model has the target to reach a minimum of 25 per cent of total households in each slum community to be enrolled.
