Kerala orders CBI probe into vet student death

Sidharthan’s family alleged he was beaten to death by local SFI leaders, sought investigation by central agency

UNDER pressure from various corners, including his family, the Kerala government on Saturday announced a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of J S Sidharthan, a student of the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Pookode, Wayanad.
The government decided to recommend an investigation by a central agency three weeks after Sidharthan was found hanging in the bathroom of the college hostel on February 18, following a 'mob trial' and torture by a gang of students, including SFI members.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed Sidharthan's parents, who met him at his office on Saturday, about the government decision to hand over the probe to the CBI.
"A police investigation is under way into the case and all the accused have been booked.
