Israel strikes south Gaza, raids last functioning hospital in the north

Al-Ahli hospital's director says Israeli army arrested medical staff; just two doctors left to tend over 100 seriously injured patients

ISRAELI forces raided one of the last functioning hospitals in Gaza’s north and bombarded the south with airstrikes that killed at least 28 Palestinians, pressing ahead with their offensive on Tuesday with renewed backing from the United States, despite rising international alarm.

The hospital in the northern Gaza Strip stopped operating after being stormed by the Israeli army, its director said.

Fadel Naim told AFP Israeli troops had attacked the Al-Ahli hospital and arrested doctors, medical staff and patients, destroying part of the building’s grounds. Israel’s attack has “put the hospital out of action,” he said. “We can’t receive any patients or injured.”
