Hydrogen to turn India into fuel exporter: Gadkari at Devi Awards

UNION Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, on Monday, blamed the transport sector for nearly 40 per cent of air pollution in Delhi, stressing the need to move away from fossil fuels.

"Forty per cent of air pollution is because of the transport sector. We import fossil fuel worth ₹22 lakh crore... We are transitioning towards biofuels, and hydrogen is the future. We are working on hydrogen production. At present, India is an energy importer, but in the future, we will become an energy-exporting nation," he said.

The minister was speaking in an interaction with editorial director of The Sunday Standard Prabhu Chawla at the annual Devi Awards felicitation ceremony in New Delhi. The award ceremony was held to celebrate and honour women achievers from diverse fields who have made remarkable contributions to society.
