Experts see muted Fed rate cut impact on India

Fund managers, analysts expect decision to strengthen rupee, increase forex inflows, and lower cost of funds

THE impact of the US Federal Reserves' rate cut will be muted on the country as it is mostly priced in, a top government official said on Thursday.

Fund managers and analysts expect the decision to strengthen the rupee, increase forex inflows and soften bond yields, thus lowering the cost of funds for the economy as a whole. They also expect the Reserve Bank to follow suit by December.

"The impact of the Fed rate cut on us will be a little muted as much of it has already been priced in," chief economic advisor V Anantha Nageswaran said in New Delhi at an event on Thursday.
