THE Central government on Wednesday filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court defending a 2023 Act that dropped the Chief Justice of India (CJI) from the selection panel appointing Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and Election Commissioners (EC).

In its reply, the Centre opposed the demand of the batch of pleas to cancel the appointment of Election Commissioners for not including the CJI in the selection panel.
