The Congress on Wednesday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Centre, alleging that the Enforcement Directorate's (ED's) chargesheet in a money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper is to cover up its failed foreign policy and prevailing economic crisis in the country.

BJP, Cong slugfest over Herald case

The BJP countered that the Congress was involved in a "corporate conspiracy".

Criticising the ED chargesheet, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the government is "hell-bent on targeting the Congress to whitewash its own sins".

"BJP's Economic Mismanagement is spiralling out of control. Desperation is gathering steam. No vision, No solution, only diversion!... People will not forgive the BJP for ruining the Indian Economy. We shall not be cowed down," he posted on 'X'.

Congress leaders and workers staged protests outside the offices of the ED and Centre in states across the country to oppose the chargesheet against senior leadership, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. They said the government was targeting the party to hide its wrongdoings, adding that ED's action was driven by a "politics of vendetta".
