Considered close to CM, Arup Biswas to continue as power minister
WEST Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday accepted the resignation of her sports and youth affairs minister Arup Biswas, who has been facing the wrath of thousands of football-loving people for the mismanagement at the Lionel Messi event at the Salt Lake Stadium on December 13. Also, the government issued a showcause notice to DGP Rajeev Kumar and other senior officials about lapses in security arrangements and crowd management at the stadium.
Sources say Banerjee will look after Biswas' department till it is allocated to a new minister. However, Biswas will continue to head the power ministry, as earlier.
