THE MEC for Transport and Human Settlements in KwaZulu-Natal, Siboniso Duma, said the government is considering introducing a “truth and reconciliation of a special kind” as part of efforts to dismantle what he described as a criminal syndicate involved in bribery and corruption in the issuing of driver's licences.
THE MEC for Transport and Human Settlements in KwaZulu-Natal, Siboniso Duma, said the government is considering introducing a "truth and reconciliation of a special kind" as part of efforts to dismantle what he described as a criminal syndicate involved in bribery and corruption in the issuing of driver's licences.
"To dismantle and root out a criminal syndicate that is behind the bribery and corruption associated with the issuing of driver's licenses, we are exploring the possibility of having a truth and reconciliation of a special kind," Duma said.
He said the aim of the initiative is to encourage those who obtained licences fraudulently to come forward and assist authorities in exposing those responsible.
He warned that action would be taken against those implicated across driving schools and testing centres.
