Lions struggle in tough conditions against Glasgow

THE Lions were almost literally blown away in Glasgow on Saturday, but the conditions were the same for both teams and coach Ivan van Rooyen regards his team’s inability to adapt as a failing.

In the first half, Glasgow played with the gale force wind at their backs and twice tris without reply. A half-time score of 42-0 would be the full-time score as the Lions could not take advantage of the wind when they had it.

“It was probably the worst weather conditions we have ever played or trained in,” Van Rooyen said. “At stages the wind was up to 90km/h.

“They utilised the wind well in the first half and we could not do the same in the second half. They delivered an attacking master class in that first half and our defence was not accurate enough. We could not deal with their attack.

“The conditions were tough. They adapted quick enough.”

Van Rooyen added that the bag-and-gage is now packed for the return flight and the team would adapt.
