I CAME, I saw ... Aikhona! Julius Caesar's famous aphorism "Veni Vidi Vici - I came, I saw, I conquered" was wrongly attributed in nine Australian schools to his successor, Augustus Caesar.
The fault in the history book was discovered only days before pupils were due to sit an ancient history examination in Queensland, according to the Associated Press.
The pupils were exempted from the statewide examination while Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said he would investigate the mix-up, describing the experience for the students as "extremely traumatic."
When the error was discovered, the schools applied for - and were granted - an exemption from the exam for their students. Even so, panicked high schoolers had been cramming about Julius Caesar's exploits as a Roman general and statesman.
