If anyone at Tottenham needed it, Tuesday's 5-2 humiliation against Atletico Madrid was a sharp reminder that they are a club in crisis, all but out of the Champions League and seemingly hurtling headfirst towards the Championship.
In a dreadful season, it was another new low for a team that must look back to December 28 for their previous win in the Premier League and who have suffered six straight defeats in all competitions for the first time in their history.
Make no bones about it, unless something changes fast, Tottenham will soon be playing in the second tier of English football for the first time since the 1977-78 season.
Spurs could find themselves in the relegation zone by the time they kick off at Anfield on Sunday.
After the game against Liverpool, they face relegation rivals Nottingham Forest in a match they really cannot afford to lose.
