The 28th edition of the Deloitte Money League, covering the 2023-24 season, was released last week and reveals Tottenham to be top of the wages-to-turnover table, their 42 per cent ratio comfortably lower than any other leading club in Europe. The next English side on the list is Arsenal at 53 per cent, while Chelsea came in at 73 per cent and Aston Villa had the highest of the clubs analysed, with an alarming 96 per cent. More compelling evidence, perhaps, of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy's astute running of the club.

Meanwhile, 72 hours after the report's release, Levy's 12th permanent head coach Ange Postecoglou fielded "at least two" players who were not fully fit in Sunday's 2-1 home defeat to Leicester, which extended the club's miserable run to one win in 11 league games. Eleven other senior players were ruled out entirely through injury, leaving Postecoglou with five teenagers on the bench (as well as two in the XI) and unable to name a full complement of nine substitutes.
